The HNHS Autumn Meeting and Annual General Meeting is taking place this Saturday (8 October) from 2 to 5.30pm at the offices of Affinity Water in Tamblin Way, Hatfield AL10 9EZ. Members and non-members are warmly invited to join us for an entertaining and informative programme of topical talks.

The speakers include Feargal Sharkey (above), Archivist of Amwell Magna Fishery, the oldest angling club in Britain that still fishes the same water. However, Feargal is even better known as a musician and former lead singer with punk band The Undertones during the 1970s and 80s.

The meeting will also celebrate the outstanding 40-year contribution to natural history in Hertfordshire  by Ken and Linda Smith, recipients of this year's prestigious 1875 Awards. Until their recent move to Sussex, Linda was the HNHS's long-serving Secretary and instigator of a highly-successful series of publications. Ken, among many roles, was county bird recorder, a past Bird Club chairman and co-author of Birds of Hertfordshire.

There is a £5 admission charge for the Autumn meeting, but members wishing only to attend the AGM (from 4 to 4.20pm) can do so free of charge.

We are most grateful to Affinity Water for allowing us the use of their offices.  Directions for reaching them will be mailed to members with the agendas for the meetings and formal notice of the AGM. Click here for a location map and travel directions.
