Nine days of activities and meetings related to environmental sustainability, including wildlife walks and talks in St Albans, Harpenden and the surrounding district. For full programme visit the Sustainable St Albans website.

Field meetings include:

Sat 21 and 22 April /Sat 28 and Sun 29 April: daytime 'Heronwatch' organised by RSPB St Albans at Verulamium Lake.

Sat 21 April: 'Reviving the Mill Stream at New Barnes Mill', working party organised by the Ver Valley Society. 10am to 12noon. Meet opposite New Barnes Mill, Cottonmill Lane, AL1 2HA. Bring wellies!

Sun 22 April, 10am to 2.30pm: 'Create a Butterfly / Bee Haven' organised by CDA Herts, Hixberry Lane, St Albans AL4 0TZ. Bookings: office@cdaherts.org.uk

Mon 23 April: Morning bird walk (suggested donation £1) to Colne Valley and Bricket Wood organised by RSPB St Albans. Meet outside 'THe Gate' Station Road, Bricket Wood, AL2 3PW. 9.30am to 12.30pm

Mon 23 April: Guided walk (free) on Harpenden Common organised by Harpenden Town Council and HMWT from 11am to 1pm.

Mon 23 April: After-school safari (free) at Batford Springs Nature Reserve organised by Harpenden Town Council and HMWT, from 4pm to 5.30pm.

Tues 24 April: Sustainable trees - Bricket Wood Common, walk (free) organised by St Albans Council Trees and Landscape team, 10.30am to 12.30pm – unless weather is bad. 

Sat 28 April: 'Understanding carbon capture by new woodland', a guided walk (£5) at Heartwood Forest organised by The Woodland Trust, 11.30am to 1pm.

Sat 28 April: Wildlife and conservation at Bricket Wood (including butterfly walk led by Malcolm Hull) organised by John O'Conner (GM) Ltd. 12 noon to 4pm, The Parish Centre, Station Road, Bricket Wood AL2 2PJ

​Sat 28 April: 'Wild about our Common' programme of activities, exhibitions and wildlife walks organised by Colney Heath Parish Council. 2pm to 5pm, Colney Heath Parish Hall, 83 High Street, Colney Heath, AL4 0NS.

Sun 29 April: 'Springwise' family friendly walk at Jersey Farm Woodland Park organised by Sandridge Parish Council (free but contact 01727 831871). 10am to 12 noon, meet at Woodland House.

Wed 25 April: 'Connecting to nature through the great outdoors', a panel discussion organised by the University of Hertfordshire, 6pm to 9pm, De Havilland Campus, Hatfield AL10 9EU
