New hide opens at Tewinbury N R

28 Feb 2010
We are delighted to report that Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust has just completed the construction of a new two-storey hide at their Tewinbury Nature Reserve, near Welwyn Garden City.

Tewinbury N RFunding for the hide was provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund through the Wetlands for Water Voles and People Project. The hide provides far-reaching views across this wetland reserve in the Mimram Valley where habitats include open water, streams, reedbeds, orchid meadows and willow and alder carr.

Tim Hill, Conservation Manager for the Trust said,
' This is an exciting development for this reserve. Recent sightings include Jack Snipe, Little Egret, Water Rail, Kingfisher and up to 70 roosting Yellowhammers. It's also one of the best places to see Water Voles in the county.'

The volunteer HMWT Warden, Robin Cole, will be describing how the reedbed was created at the Herts Bird Club conference on 20 March, details...

Access to the hide and car parking is courtesy of the owners of Tewinbury Farm Hotel. Please park in the first car park on the right of the main drive to the hotel, off the B1000, Hertford Road. If the gates to the car park are closed, open them, but close them behind you.
